About Us
Casino Shelties is a small hobby kennel located on approximately 8 acres of countryside in Edwardsville, Illinois. A long time ago, I received my first blue merle sheltie as a wedding present from my husband. Her name was Domino and she was my first dog to train in Obedience through Utility, herding, and agility and became the GSLSSC club's first versatility dog. It was then that I wanted to also show in conformation and bought a blue merle bitch from Moonshine kennels. Since I acquired the bitch with a return puppy back, I had essentially agreed to have my first litter. It was at this time, my friend told me, you need to pick a kennel name. My husband and I were young and did not have children yet. Since our first 2 dogs were named Domino and Checkers, we wanted a game theme. This brought us to picking "Casino" as our kennel name- even though until this day, we have only ever been in an actual casino twice in our lives. We like to pick names for our dogs, which are game, or sports, and/or casino related, whenever it seems to suit the dog's personality.
We are 20 minutes east of St. Louis, Missouri and started showing shelties in obedience in 1990. Later, we started competing in agility and conformation. We have dogs titled in agility, conformation, flyball, herding, and obedience.
We primarily focus on Sable and White Shetland Sheepdogs, with an occasional AOAC (any other allowed color) in the family. This combination produces a solid body, lovely head, beautiful coats, and sound temperaments.
We spend time enjoying dogs as companions first and as competition dogs second. We have a small number of dogs, which allows them to live in our home and be part of the family. My husband, Tom, and our 3 boys, help with daily chores and serve as extra hands for petting. They are wonderful at puppy socialization and are great with even the youngest of puppies.
